Junior Church takes a break during the school holidays, so during the month of August, all our

9.30 am services will be designed to welcome all ages.  The church wardens have made arrangements for the Darby Room to be available for anyone who needs to move about.  There will be toys and books laid out, and the service will be relayed into the room via the loud speakers.

Every Thursday morning at 10.00 there is a quiet Eucharist at St Luke’s, followed by coffee.  Everyone is welcome.

Study:

Tuesdays at 11.00 a.m.  West End Room at St Luke’s.  We study the passages set for the forthcoming Sunday, then share lunch together with members of the Avenue Club.

New for the Autumn: We shall be embarking on a 6 week course of study in October and November, based at the Barn Church, at 8pm on Wednesday evenings either side of half term.  Each session will address particular areas of our faith and will allow for presentation, debate and prayer.  More details will follow through the summer.

The Summer Fete:

Many congratulations to everyone and especially to Anne Jeffries for the fine result of our Summer Fete.  Over £1800 was raised, our best total every, and a fine day was had by everyone.  The Kew Community Choir sang impressively on their first ever public performance, and the Queen’s School Yr2 choir were enchanting.

Children:

The Parent & Toddler Groups on both Monday mornings and Friday mornings will not be held during the school holidays, as the Kew Out of School Club will be offering holiday play facilities for the 5-11 yr olds from 8.30 a.m. to 6.30 p.m.  There will also be two weeks of activities for children aged 11-15 at Pensford Field.  Contact Richard Ferriday on 8392 1324 for further details

Music:

Both the Kew Community Choir & our Church Choir are taking well-earned breaks during August

P.C.C. News:

At its latest meeting, the Parochial Church Council reviewed our work with children, our involvement at the Queen’s School and the part we play in our Deanery of Richmond and Barnes.  Figures were provided giving a detailed breakdown of income and payment for the first quarter of 2010.  While they showed an excess of income over expenditure, they also included the once-a-year payment of tax reclaimed from the Inland Revenue as a result of Gift-Aided giving.  In the remaining three quarters of the year, income will have to be substantially raised if we are to meet our projected expenditure of £80,000.  The income from the summer fete (see above) represents only 1/3rd of our monthly outgoings.  With only the Barn Dance and the Christmas Fair as fundraising events to come this year, we must all examine our levels of giving and ensure that we are tax-efficient and Gift-Aid our donations so that the parish can maximise its income.

But here is another idea: Are you a runner? Do you run 10k in under 80 minutes?  The 2nd Richmond River Run will be held on 5th September, starting & finishing at St Anne’s Kew.  Why not enter, and raise sponsorship money for the Barn Church.  For more details, visit: www.richmondriverrun.co.uk

Prayer:

·         Pray for all the Year 6 children as they finish Primary School and prepare to move on to Secondary School in September

·         Pray for safe travel for all those going away on holiday

·         Pray for Nigel & Susan Barton, our parish treasurers, and Jeremy & Sheila Crewdson, our parish bookkeepers, as they steer our finances through these difficult times

Useful Dates:

·         11th September  Junior Church re-starts

·         9th October  Harvest Barn Dance
